Ok, so I made a video and edited it, but its in .mswmm format (windows movie maker)

How do I reformat it so I can youtube it and share it?

The .mswmm file is your WMM project file.

You need to export your finished movie out of WMM - try exporting/publishing to .WMV and then you will be able to upload to Youtube.

WMMaker video editing process:

..Step 1. Capture/Import files to be used

..Step 2. Edit - drag/drop files->timeline; enhance w/ effects-transition-titles-filters

..Step 3. Finish (w/render) Movie- save file or share-burn to CD

*.mswmm is a file extension (not a video format) of a saved WinMovieMaker PROJECT,  a 'work in progress'  w/c archives the links to the various video/pic/music/etc. files collected and also those included in the timeline. This is necessary so that if the editing process cannot be finished in one session, the process can continue later starting with this *.mswmm file. Also, this allows for multiple re-edits if you're still not satisfied. This file is not even recognized by WMM as a valid file for capture.

Save Project is true for most if not all video editing app so as to have  just a small file to save on disk space when rhe pc is not used for editing. It is next to impossible to finish a movie in just one sitting.

If there was no .avi or .wmv file, it would mean that Step 3- Finish Movie- SAVE TO MY COMPUTER (w/rendering) was not done. OR the editing process could have been finished but the  .avi or .wmv file could not be located. In Step 3, WMM alllows the user to type a filename for the movie, what folder it should be saved and choose the video format of final muvee.

Hope you have not deleted or moved the files used in editing, just double click on the *.mswmm  file and the project will re-appear. Then complete the 3rd step- save to my computer... and you're ready to test your final muvee, upload and share.
