A few years back I had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, so naturally I was confident in my body and fighting skills. Unfortunately, during training one day I severely injured myself. After a year of physical therapy, I'm back to normal, but that's it. I'm white belt level, maybe orange belt. The muscles in my legs needed for Tae Kwon Do have visibly grown smaller and my skill level is, as I mentioned, pathetic. I've lost confidence in my bodies abilities. I could train in Tae Kwon Do for 10 more years and get back to my old skill level, but life is getting too busy for that.
So, how do I gain fighting strength the "normal" way? I used to be confident I could survive a fight with most people, now I'm not so sure.
What kind of exercises/training do non-martial artists put themselves through to prepare for fights? To strengthen their bodies? Anything specific, or does one simply work out in general?
How do I get better at fighting?
