How do I reject a guy?

A guy in my college class asked me out on a date and I said "yes" unenthusiastically because I don't have feelings for him but I couldn't say "no" in front of his roommate. What should I do? I don't want to go on the date cause I don't want to lead him on. How do I cancel the date and tell him that I just want to be friends (nicely and with limited awkwardness)?

"I'm sorry but I said yes to the date because I didn't want you to feel bad, but I also don't want to lead you on. I hope your alright if I cancel the date?"
