Well I know the counters are not GRANITE, so that's why I called them cheap.

I am not sure what the material is called. My friend worked as a counter manufacturer and he told me but I forgot.

I think its called Corcian or something like that. Anyway, its either that or hard plastic. I JUST DONT KNOW.

But what is an effective way to remove these burns?

Thanks in advance...

  1. Askalot,

If your countertop material is Formica, rather than Corian, you'll not likely remove all evidence; it only takes a few seconds to leave a burnish mark that will be deep enough to be permanent. If Formica, you can scrub away some of the mark, but be cautious of going too far; the color layer of Formica has gotten very thin!

If your counters are Corian (or other "solid-surface" product), use progressively finer grades of Scoth-Brite pads dampened in water to buff out the burns. If the Corian was installed with a matte finish, the fine Scoth-Brite should closely leave the same finish. If it was polished to a high gloss, a little toothpaste on a terry cotton towel will bring back the gloss. Use care in attempting use of any polishing compounds or abrasive cleansers; some can stain/etch the product and create further troubles.

  2. If the burns aren't too deep tries some Brasso brass cleaner.  It has a very fine abrasive and won't scar your countertops

  3. Cigarette ashes rubbed on the burns shoul help.

  4. It is called Corian and it is far from cheap.  Use Soft Scrub and rub until the mark is gone.  It may take a while, but it will come out.
