Question:

How do I remove a gasoline smell from rubber?

I bought a set of weights (steel with a rubber rim) at a garage sale and didn't realize until they were sitting inside my home that the rubber rims all have a very strong gasoline smell. I've tried soaking them in a Borax solution and setting them in a pan of dry baking soda. Nothing seems to help. I now have them sitting in the sun to see if that will help at all. Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated. I can't use the weights or even have them in the house because the smell is so strong.

  1. You can use, an orange cleaner, the citrus will kill the Oder. Also the other thing you can try is soap made with lye, the lye will gill the gasoline, it works for my husband when he repairs the car!
