  1. you have to remove the water from the line first . do this by cutting it a little before the cap .then clean the pipe ,flux put new fitting on and heat it up and solder

  2. If you have enough excess pipe, after shutting the water off and draining the system, cut the old cap off with a copper tubing cutter and the just start adding to you existing system. Or you can sweat the old fitting and solder off and then go from there.

  3. You want to cut the cap off. If you remove it by using a propane/map gas torch, you'll have to spend some extra time cleaning the pipe end of all old solder. Your new weld will have more of a chance of failing, opposed to cutting it and starting with a clean end.. Good luck.

  4. cut it off

  5. Turn water off, let it drain by opening all the faucets, hose bibs and propane torch it off, or just pipe cut it off.

  6. If you have room just cut it off with a tubing cutter. If not it will require a minimum of a propane torch, drain the water from the pipe and just heat the the pipe close to the cap and use a s***w driver to gently tap the cap off. Have some water on hand if close to flammable materials.
