How do I remove a wheel clamp?

I read that it is not illegal to remove a clamp as long as the clamp does not get damaged. The clampers accept that it was wrongly clamped, but I have to travel a long way to fully resolve the issue, and want to use my car. How do I remove a clamp without causeing any damage to the clamp?

Somebody puts that c**p on my car I don't call them, I smash it and throw the pieces in the dumpster.
