Question:

How do I remove bacteria, mildew, and soap scum in a shower stall without having to scrub it all the time?

The pink bacteria *I believe it's called Seratia* is always growing on the walls of my fiberglass shower stall. Black mildew is always growing in the groves of the metal frame to the shower door. Soap scum or filmy residue is always on the glass shower door. I scrub it about every week or every other week, but this stuff keeps coming back. What can I do so that I don't have to scrub it so much... I don't want to buy anything very expensive... I saw those automatic shower cleaners but they are too much money for me... Does anyone have any ideas, or have had something that worked for you?

  1. try TUB N TILE once a week and NO WORK as daily spray, these 2 work awesomw together!! best part, NO BLEACH!!!

lmk if i can give more info....

  2. Do you have a good ceiling fan for your bathroom?  Getting the excess moisture out of your bathroom really helps. I hate shower doors because of the soap scum and the shower door tracks!  They are impossible to clean!!  My husband pulled them out and we have a shower curtain now.

I hate that pink yukky stuff!  I got a mildew-proof shower curtain (they're only a few dollars more and really worth it!) and it really cuts the mildew out but it still got the pinky residue after a couple of weeks.

After I started keeping the shower curtain pulled across my tub, the moisture was able to evaporate and the pink stuff was greatly reduced.

Anything where moisture is "trapped" makes bacteria.

I've used everything to clean showers and sprays to keep them clean...  The stuff I use the most? Comet with bleach is great to sprinkle on your tub and it helps kill mildew, and cleans dirt off the tub.  I know they say don't use it on surfaces that might be "scratched" but I'd rather have that happen than mildew and scuzz as my showering companions!

  3. Right!

You have a ventilation problem which is causing the mildew and mould.

What you need to do is install a humidistat controlled extractor fan in the ceiling above the shower cubicle.

If your double glazed windows have trickle vents, keep 'em open.

Also, fit an airbrick to the outside wall.

To deal with the fungus, use domestos, or any strong bleach, mixed with baking soda.(illegal and unwise I know, But VERY effective!)

  4. Bleach is inexpensive.  Put some in a spray bottle and give the worst areas a squirt every day or two.

  5. im not sure but maybe you can try vinegar. go to this website maybe it will help you
