    More research with much larger samplings needs to be done before drawing any conclusions that car seats are toxic.

    Until then protecting seats for unnecessary heat and sun exposure is always a good idea.

    Excessive heat and sun exposure speeds up the breakdown of plastic components on car seats, thus potentially reducing the protection they provide.

    It wouldn't hurt to remove the sun shade from your infant's car seat and to use it as carrier only when absolutely necessary.

    When going to replace a car seat consider one without fancy fabrics and trims to further reduce chemical exposure.

    Remember this is just one more piece of data, safety, comfort and ease of use also need to be considered when purchasing any car seat.
