Question:

How do I remove latex paint off painted metal without damaging the paint underneath?

OK, so the morons who owned my house before me painted the interior aluminum framing of my sliding patio door with beige latex paint. Underneath is the glossy white paint that I would like to reveal. If I scrub the latex with hot water and a plastic scrub pad, it eventually comes off without damaging the paint beneath...but it's very tedious. Any ideas to make this job easier? I'm concerned that paint remover would also remove the original paint beneath.

I guess it's analagous to trying to remove latex paint off of a car...

  1. The only way to do it is the way you already are. Why not just repaint?
