Question:

How do I remove locked files from the trash in Mac OS X?

I'm having a very irritating problem with Mac OS X. I had a Windows Partition which I then "messed up." Most of the program files were still there. I tried to delete them so I could just use that space as storage. It worked until I tried to empty the trash. It always gives me an error saying I don't have enough "privileges" to empty the trash.

This is really annoying, especially when I just want to delete one file.

Can any one help?

  1. try deleting the files when logged on to your root account?

*edit* or just restart your mac and try again...

  2. There are a few options here. I'm not familiar with mac, but I know there are a few simple ways to get rid of locked files.

*you can change the file ending. i.e. .jpg >delete and put .gif

*you can go into "safe mode" on your comp, without network, and then delete the files.

*you'd have to restore the files so you can look at their properties. When you look at their properties, you can change the privileges. Or, you can change the privileges through folder properties.

Sorry if it doesn't help. :( Hope it works out in the end for ya.
