  1. As a last resort talk to your building supply folks about a muratic acid mix concrete cleaner.  Use it with extreme caution, lots of ventilation and follow label directions.  Muratic acid is one of the most dangerous chemicals available to the do it yourselfer, but will definitely remove the mold.

  2. You need to dehumidify the basement, use an industrial dehumidifier. You should be able to rent one; this will take about a week to do right.

Dehumidify, mold should be almost dry to touch

Wear dust mask & gloves, keep dehumidifier running

Scrap off worst of the mold

mix water & disinfective soap, put in spray bottle

Spray on infected areas, scrub with wire brush if possible

wait till walls dry, return dehumidifier, Paint with "Kilz"

Painting with "Kilz" will help seal basement, reducing the possibilty of regrowth of mold. Check hardware store for complete basement sealer

Plus painting a basement is a great summer job, keep a fan running to circulate air

  3. steam clean (you can probably rent form a local diy store) and then cover with damp repellant paint (also available at local diy store)

  4. without all the hassle of pressure washing and masks and all that other stuff, just mix half water and half bleach and put it on the mold and let it set for a few minutes. mold and mildew are fungus which will die quickly when doused with bleach. If it doesn,t get it all, hit it again. Then just rinse it off. If the cellar has a dirt floor, don,t even bother rinsing. The fumes aren,t going to bother you in the cellar.

  5. Witha home that old you need to soak with soapy bleach water and then power wash. This should look like brand new.
