How do I remove paint from my bathroom tiles?

Moved in to a new house and some muppet painted the bathroom very badly. Around the tiles there is an inch of paint smears that I want to try and tidy up rather than re-tile.

Tiles are shiny.

paint is normal white matte emulsion (i think)

  1. cloth, water, and elbow grease

  2. Goof-Off- purchase it at the hardware store.

  3. Goof-Off Paint Remover at Lowes and Home Depot, etc..  Everyone should have some of this.  It removes alot more than just paint.

  4. paint should come off the tile with a scraper(be careful not to scratch tiles) but if it is on the grout you may want to use bleach to lighten the paint in the grout

  5. Scrape off as much as you can and remove the rest with a plastic scrubbing pad.

  6. You don't have to re-tile all you have to do is get something like a putty knife or a spatula and scrap the paint off

  7. If the tiles are ceramic, just use a blade scraper.  If the tiles are some kind of vinyl composite, you can use a strong solution (3-4 tablespoons/litre of water) of TSP (Tri-sodium phosphate) available at any paint store.  USE RUBBER GLOVES and keep the bathroom fan running.

Swab the solution onto the undesired paint with a rag.  Let it soak for a minute or two.  An ordinary non-metallic pot scrubber should take the softened paint off.

Be careful with the TSP though.  It's cheap but its powerful.  Don't get it in your eyes.  I wear goggles when using it.

  8. More info please....is the paint to be removed on the tiles? or the wall?

Do you know if its latex or oil based?

Thanks!  Better answers will follow with this info.
