How do I remove the cable TV cord?

I want to take my laptop and my wireless internet modem into my room, where I can hook it up the the wall port there (we get our internet through the cable tv) so I can use my internet & computer in my room. I would have to remove the cable from my tv to my wall from the wall, so I can put my modem cord in that port. I tried to do so, but couldn't. Do I unscrew it? Or just pull? Or...what?

  1. Most cables are screwed in. If you look at the connector it should have a hexagon pattern around it. It looks kinda like a nut (as in nut & bolt). Use a wrench and turn it counterclockwise, be careful because there is a pin in the middle of the cable that goes into the wall or tv. When you put it back on it may be kinda tough to s***w back in because it has a fine thread. It should go on hand tight and tighten a little with the wrench. Don,t force it cuz you will strip the threads.

  2. Get a 7/16 wrench and loosen up the wire going counter clockwise off the TV. To put it back on use your hands to get it started untill it is snug and then go a 1/8 of a turn with the wrench. If the modem doesnt work in the new room call your cable company, they might need to reconfigure the splitters in your basement so the best signal goes to that room. Good luck, if you cant figure it out call your cable company and have them do it. Usually it is a small charge but you know it will be done correctly. Good luck!

  3. The first two answers describe the typical connection. (There are some cheap cables that just push on & pull off, those are round on the outside instead of being a hexagon.)

Usually you can just use your fingers to unscrew these. You can use pliers or a wrench but make sure you know which way to turn the wrench, other wise you will probably strip the threads and ruin the cable.

    Alternatives:

Unscrew the end of the cable attached to the TV and attach it to the modem

You said it is a wireless modem. Does the laptop have a wireless modem built in? Or can you get a USB Wi Fi adapter for it? Most people would just set up the wireless Wi Fi so they wouldn't have to mess with cables and cords.

  4. cable TV cord has a tread on it which cause it to mount to the TV. you just have to turn the hexagon like end counter clock-wise to loosen it.if you cant do it with your finger-grip, the use a pliers or any open-wrench that fits will do the trick. good luck.(",)
