How do I remove the hot air pipes from my house which were previously used to heat the house?

Does anyone know what the pipes are likely to be made of? will there be any asbestos? My house was built after 1970 if that makes any difference and has central heating already. I just want to remove a hot air pipe from one of my bedrooms as it will free up a lot of space. Many thanks

  1. Hello,,just rip it out,,and then fix the hole.

  2. make sure it's not for radon gas vent....sometimes ,free estimates are very informative

  3. I may be as curious as answer 2, in the sense that even at that age, even considering methods of heating a home in the 70's are you certain the pipes aren't some type of ductwork, or pipes from a previous boiler using radiators and steam heat?

Asbestos at least in the US was outlawed in the mid 70's (75 maybe?). That doesn't state it wasn't still in existance in coinstructions, as remediation is hugely expensive when done by any cerified contracting agency.    In any case for the purposes of heating Asbestos would have only been a substance to insulate the pipe, not be the pipe.

I think in your case, I might do more research than just here, and with agencies still dealing with asbestos, and that confusing heating system you suggest.

    Just my two "sense"
