Sometimes, I hit some key by mistake and I notice my Word document has changed! All words are separated by dots (periods) e.g.:

this.is.a.simple.example. The inverted P symbol occurs at different places. How do I undo my mistake and remove the inverted P, dots, enter arrow symbol, etc??

  1. There's a paragraph key that you've pressed. It's up in your toolbar somewhere. Or you can go to View>Normal.

    Try that.

  2. These symbols (called formatting marks) represent the invisible characters (such as page breaks and spaces) on your screen.  To get rid of it press Ctrl+shift+8.

  3. the paragraph button at top of screen or in view/layout

  4. The same symbol should be on your tool bar. Simply click it, and all of the "dots" will go away.

  5. You need to go to the MENU item FORMAT

once there you need to select PARAGRAPH

Inside that pop-up screen menu there is an option to display editing marks or it might be formatting tools.  Make sure it is deselected.
