How do I remove the pegs off of a BMX bike?

I have a 5 year old BMX bike (I know, I'll get a new one next summer?, and want to know how I can remove it's pegs (front and rear). It is a Mongoose, but I don't know the model name/number. If you could please help I'd really like that!!!

  1. if it has two holes in the side of the pegs then they should just twist off so slide a s***w driver through those two holes and twist it counterclockwise and they should start to come off if it doesnt have the two holes then take a socket what ever size fits and an extension hook it on the end of a rachet and twist it counterclockwise also you feel free to contact me for future refrence


  2. I had to use a socket wrench with a long extension to reach into the pegs so I could remove the axle nuts.    

    If you don't have such a tool, anyone with a reasonable set of auto mechanic tools should have a suitable wrench.   Somewhere there's an auto mechanic who will loan you the wrench, but you might have to sweep out the garage or clean the bathroom first!  ;-)

    Anyway, once I got the pegs off, I noticed the axles stuck out about 1-1/2 inches on each side, so I put plastic protective caps on them to try to prevent my son from getting injured by them.   I would've cut them shorter, but he insisted that he might want to put the pegs back on.
