Question:

How do I remove the white backgrounds from animated GIFs?

I'm making an animation on Macromedia Flash and I have imported an animated GIF for use within this animation. However, the GIF has a white background that I need to remove. Short of drawing round the edge of each frame of the GIF and then applying a mask (which would take a very long time) is there any other way to remove the background?

  1. I don't use Macromedia Flash, but normally a good graphics editor has a Magic Tool selection or one actually labeled to remove backgrounds.  When selected, set the tolerance that removes just the background color.  You will have to do this on each frame of the animation.
