How do I repair a snapped brake cable on a bmx bike?

i would like to know how i could repair a snapped brake cable on my haro bmx bike but i do not want to get a new one.

  1. This is a extremely tough part to fix, and it depends on where it's broken and how much spare cable you have.

    You could also use shrink fittings that connect the two ends together.

    But this is potentially dangerous and I wouldn't recommend it.

  2. Well, that makes it pretty difficult to repair if you don't replace it.

    You may not WANT to but you WILL buy a replacement... if you want it to work again.

  3. I'm cheap, but even I keep a couple of spare cables in my bike parts box......

    Dust off the coin purse and ante up.

  4. Brake cable is cheap as H3LL, just buy a new one.  

    And no, you CANNOT splice the ends of a snapped pull cable together and expect it to hold up to use.

  5. you can't to repair it! replace it you can get a bike cable for about $10 that includes all the cables on the bike

  6. I once attempted to solder a brake cable back together.  It did work for a couple miles.  However, repairing a brake cable is a generally bad idea.  All you're going to do is weaken the cable so that it will break again.  Want to be safe, buy a new cable.
