Question:

How do I repel toads temporarily (at least) from my yard?

I have a small back yard with two feet of grass. I do not have a lawnmower, but I do have a weekeater and plan on weedeating it. There are LOTS AND LOTS of toads in that grass, and I am hesitant to go after it with the weedeater in fear of the toads jumping up and getting toad guts slung all over me!! I thought about spraying ammonia on the area in hopes to make them go away long enough for me to mow it down but I don't know if that will kill my grass or what. Thanks for any advice!

  1. Perhaps you could invite a cat or dog to visit for a while?

  2. toads are actually good for pest control.

  3. Put up a small fence made of stakes and screening or weed-block fabric.  That should keep them out.  Don't use chemicals to try to repel them - you'll kill the grass, and the good animals and bugs.

Did you know that toads eat bugs?  Just leave them alone and go slow with the weedwacker.  I've never yet killed a frog or toad with one.
