Question:

How do I replace a cat converter?

The car is a Renault Clio RL 1996. I was driving around yesterday and i pulled what looks like horse hair out of my exhaust? After talking to a bloke in the pub he said it was the CC? Is this correct and is it easy to replace this myself?

Many Thanks

  1. unless you know how to weld take it to the shop..shouldn't be too expensive

  2. It's wadding from the silencer. NOT the cat which has a very hard ceramic matrix in it - or a stainless steel matrix which will not break up as ceramics can.

Where did you pull it from? The end of the tail pipe or from the sides of the silencer box? Either way you may need a new rear exhaust section. You can fit them yourself but it shouldn't be too expensive to get it fitted.

One more thing. Don't ask the bloke in the pub anything else about cars.

  3. It sounds like the horse hair came from a glass pack muffler, not the cat.

  4. Take it to the shop, they have rebuilt ones out there too!  So it would not be too bad, Just make sure you get a warranty with it.
