How do I replace a light fixture that doesn't have a mounting plate with one that needs one??r=1218778029?

My old bathroom fixture was screwed into studs on the side, but my new one has a center mount and there is no mounting box installed.

I suggest you mount the box for proper installation.  It should give you the instructions on how to with your installation sheet.  And usually the mounting box is included with the fixture.
