I have a moen faucet and want to take out the old valve stems but they will not budge. I bought a stem extractor but it is causing damage to the tiles and pipes by me pulling and yanking on it.

  1. Keep constant outward pressure on the stem and rotate it back and forth.

You can also brush in some clean veggy oil into the stem area to help lube it to get it out.

  2. If u have a stem extractor and is causing damage to the tiles...ur using it wrong.  It suppost to keep any damage from happening.  Did u buy a stem puller to use for Moen?  They have the extractor that just for that purpose.  Moen or Delta, American Standard, Price Phister, and yes, even the Off brands.  The puller uses the faucet itself to pull the stem out and not u pulling on the faucet itself.  The cartridge is stuck because of Calcium buildup.
