How do I replace the rotors on a motorcyle? The specific model is a 1999 fzr-600. How much to rotors cost, and are they easy to install?

  1. Remove the wheels and start loosening the bolts onto the rotors.  I recommend using loctite, when installing the new rotors.  Tightening it criss cross patten as you would do it to your car lug nuts for proper placment.  You don't need to take it to the shop or buy a book, it is pretty easy to do.




  2. I have replaced dozens of discs on my bikes over the past ~25 years (had drum style brakes before then) ... merely remove the screws ... they are supposed to be tight, most have allen hex head screws (that I recall anyway) and might require tapping the hex wrench with something like a hammer to get them broke loose.

    applying heat to the screws might make them a bit easier to remove though.

    make sure you have the correct size hex allen key / wrench and a small hammer to lightly tap on the allen key... quick sharp taps... or if you have an impact driver set appropriately to unscrew might work better.
