Question:

How do I restore files from an old computer to a new one?

I just got a new computer, because my old one fried when I spilled water on it. Luckily, a couple days before the water spilled, I backed all my files up onto some disks. Now that I have my new computer, I'd like to restore those files to this one, so I have all my stuff. Unfortunately, there is no "restore" option when I load the first CD--the restore icon is just that, an icon, when the computer takes me to the folder to view files, even though there should (I think) be the option to restore. I'm going form an hp dv9000 with Windows Vista Home Premium to an HP dv2000 with Windows Vista Home Premium. I heard that I could just put the hard drive from the old computer into the new one, but I'm worried that this will negate all the new stuff and updates my new computer came with. Can anyone help me with this?

  1. Just put the disk into the computer again and copy all of the data to your new hardrive and no, there is absolutely no resotre option and replacing the hardrive on your new computer may cause problems

  2. I would put the info CDs into the drive and then copy the information over onto the new hard drive.  This uses less time and less money than a replacing the new hard drive.

  3. With most computers you get a second port in whihc to put a secondary (slave) hard drive. Plug in the old Hard Drive and go to the BIOS Settings and set your slave drive up.

Now log on and go onto My Computer and access the other Hard Drive and just copy anything you need onto the nerw hard drive.

    Hope that helps.
