How do I revitalize dead grass?

I bought a forclosed home and the grass in the backyard is dead. I live in sothern California. How can I bring it back to life?

water it every day in late evening or at night. should take a couple of weeks but it will come back.

believe it or not....simple watering. once it starts growing again then you can add fertilizer and supplement with seed as required

if you have a sprinkler system then run it about 10 minutes 2 times a day for a week you'll see a bit of green growing each day the grass is just dormant.

Water if you want something will grow. I don't know what it will be maybe weeds or something. Dead is dead and if you want a nice carpet it walk on I would till and replant. If you are sure it is dead. Dead is dead and no amount of water will bring it back if its dead.
