Sentence

Every 28 minutes, a patent for an invention is written

I found that the sentence is in passive but I can't seem to reword it to be shorter and be in the active voice. So I would like at least a rewrite. Much kudos to anyone who makes the sentence SHORTER!

  1. Active voice is one issue.  Wordiness is another.

The sentence is passive.  To make it active, you'd need an actor:

Every twenty-eight minutes, someone writes a patent for an invention.

To make it shorter, you need to remove words.  If you can't think of any kind of patent that isn't for an invention, then you can write:

Every twenty-eight minutes, someone files a patent.

  2. A patent for an invention is written every 28 minutes.

Switching them avoids forcing the passive tense.

You can also add an adjective every now and then.. and it's better to spell out the number 28.

(Amazingly,) a patent for a (new) invention is created every twenty-eight minutes.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Every 28 minutes, a patent for an invention is written

Active voice (same number of words)

Someone writes a patent for an invention every 28 minutes.

If you mean they not only write it, but actually patent it, you can say.

Someone patents an invention every 28 minutes.

    (3 fewer words)

  6. "An invention is patented every 28 minutes."
