I would like to run an FM antenna (you know, as in RADIO :-) in the attic and put a coax through an interior wall to a jack for my stereo. What kinds of tools do I need? How do I plan the run? Thanks for your help!

  1. do you have an ariel antenna already installed you know for TV reception? if so, you can by a splitter and attach it to your fm coax input. if you do this you might want to invest in a coax

surge protector; usually you can find these built in to some A.C. surge protectors if not it is highly recommended that you get some kind of lightning protection module.

I only suggested this cuz it might be easier than running a new line.     good luck.

  2. u will need a cable that is long enough to do as u wish.  then all u have to do is go into the attic find the wall ur stereo is on and drop part of the cable do it.  so u dont forget what wall..  then drill a hole were u need  the cable to meet ur stereo.  go back to the attic look bt the two walls for the light of the room and do ur best to fish the wire through the hole and conect it and u got ur radio.

  3. In you attic in between the sheet rock there will be a 2x4.  if you want the wire in the wall drill through the 2x4 and then place a wire snake with a small metal chain taped on the end through the hole.  Cut out the hole on your wall where you want the wire to come out,  and using a magnet pull the chain and snake through.  oh tape a string onto the snake before pulling it all the way through.  Ties the string and wire together and pull through the wall.  This is assuming there are no fire stops.

  4. Modern construction (current building codes) require Fire Stop Blocks to be installed in all walls and this will make it difficult if not impossible in some instances with out drilling holes thru them too >? and fishing them as well.

Long Drill Bits, and Glow sticks are available at Home Depot.

Hope your wire pulling goes well, and be careful of the things that are usually in walls >Electricity!
