  1. Get the ball tucked up under your arm so they can't rip it away.

When someone comes to tackle you try and hand them off, if they're at arms length they can't tackle you.

If they wrap you then get your head down and pump your legs, try and make as much yardage as you can.

If someone makes a good tackle then just accept that they did well and move on.

  2. As a former centre when I ran with the ball into my opposite number or anyone else I would drop my height and with your momentum that you are building use my weight and leg drive to run over the top or through them. Keep the ball tucked firmly in the opposite arm of the direction where the defenders are coming from and if your timing is good fend with your free arm.

The fend can be a useful tool in open play. Check the link below. Jonah Lomu was the best at executing this skill. It even shows him in slow motion doing what he does best.

    Good luck.

  3. Don't know your weight, but try getting some more carbs ( pizza and pasta) in your diet and improving your build a bit. Technically, try and take longer strides, and lower your shoulder and body weight so your hitting with as much of your weight as possible when you make contact with the other guy. In the gym, try and build up stronger thigh muscles with leg presses and maybe some endurance runs. I've found that if a guy grabs you or makes contact, it helps to be able to keep your legs moving and pull away.

  4. There are many ways to make yourself gain more yards going into tackles.

The first thing you should do is back yourself, run as fast as you can at full pace

Approaching a tackle you should carry the ball in two hands and use footwork to attack the tacklers inside shoulder (run at branches not stumps)

When deciding to take on a defender, transfer the ball to the opposite arm of the defender and try to hand them off

Keep pumping your feet and keep your head up

If you think to yourself "i'm going to get tackled now, you will do just that" if you think "im going to run through this fella and score a try" you will definitely make them extra yards which is need!

So just back yourself and run at the smallest players haha

  5. head down and a low body position then go!

  6. get lower, people probably take you down so easily because you're so tall.

  7. space out your `strides` as you run-doesn`t make you any slower-but does `shift` your weight.

like a bike to a tractor-sorry only example i can think of!

    knock `em dead/down pal!

  8. low body position going into contact but dude, not really the function of a 6 foot 3 lock to make a break. Concentrate on getting to the break down first, backing up your loose men, and you will find it much easier to break the gain line because there will be less people in your way.

Fitness and sound technique will always beat the pie eaters.

  9. use your shoulders more

  10. well not knowing your weight I would say that if you run with a lean foward and lower your shoulders when people come to tackle you, you might be able to break more tackles remember to keep pumping your legs, but maybe you should just consider juking the guy out by either spinning out of the tackle or faking like your going one way and actually going the other way. Personally I feel like you should do a little of both so the tackler does not know what to expect and doesnt just pin his ears back and blow you up, you could also add the stiff arm to your toolbox it would make you a better more complete runner. But from what you posted you might just be someone who grew faster than he should have and mayber your just lanky and should attempt to fill out your frame with more muscle and if you choose to go this route remember to squat deadlift and trie to do olympic lifts such as powercleans focus on your legs as they give you the power to break tackles dont lift too heavy though as you are only 15 and your still growing and good luck.

  11. Tuck the ball tight under your arm, when your about to make contact with the tackler, lower your body (or just your upper body) and with both arms in front of your chest...Use your biceps, shoulders and even the ball to bump the opposing player off you...You would drive into them, and then up, so if youve got enough force from your run, they should just fall away from you..

Thas just what I do though..

  12. Study some south african games and try to do what they do... I'm a rugby player myself and I'll tell you the best feeling there is, is to tackle a guy to bits

  13. When you go for run, try a bit of stepping. Just run straight at a person and before you hit them, run in another direction. try also using your shoulders more. When you hit them with your shoulders, bend your legs first then launch up into the opposition

  14. try to handoff opposing players and be more aggresive

  15. eat AND GROW FAT!

  16. When ur running at someone lift ur knees more nd they tend to back down out of fear
