We have a Zenith 25" TV that is about 6 or 7 We can run it thru the DVD, but when we try to use the tv on it also, it won't work. There isn't anything on the TV to turn off the onboard speaker, just to adjust from mono to stereo. I know we can't be the only people in this world who have analog tvs who have bought surround sound. Is there a way to be able to run surround sound for the the tv and the dvd? Maybe some kind of adapter? Do we need an adapter to change to digital? Help!!!!

  1. run the outputs (audio and video)  from the DVD into your surround sound amplifier.    Do the same from your cable box.   Use the input/outputs with the RCA plug conectors, not the RF cables.    Then use just the composite video out or S-video from the amplifier to the corresponding input on the TV, don't connect the audio to the TV at all.

  2. Most of the time with TV you only have an analog output. it will be a left and right RCA style connection.

This should be connected to your HT receiver.

Your DVD players digital output should be connected to your receivers digital input. I also recommend you connect your DVD players analog output to the analog input on your TV. This will allow you to listen to DVDs without turning on your HT receiver if you're watching a documentary and did not care about the sound.

Check your menu on your tv. you may not be able to turn off the speakers. But your volume on your TV may also control the volume of the analog output. This is the case on my TV. I have to disable the volume for external speakers or when I turn the TV down the receiver goes down too.

Connect the DVD to the DVD input on your HT receiver and connect your TV to the TV input on your HT receiver. Hope this helps.

Double check the manual for your TV. It should have a small section which explains how to disable the volume of the analog outputs. AT least it will cover all of the MENU sections and items.
