How do I run windows media player from my external hard drive so that all my music won't take up my C drive?

  1. for that kind of situation u can play media files located on the other source like ipod portables or external hardrive directly from windows media player which must be located on your bootable partion that is wmp is in built with windows.there are other players like winamp which can be executed even if they are on other sources


  2. If you already have wmp on your c drive just copy all media files to the external hardrive.

  4. you don't want to 'run' media player from the external drive  - you want to relocate your music files to the external drive.

    how you do that depends on your version of windows.  on vista, you click on Start, then RIGHT click on My Music and choose Properties.  then go to the Location tab, and click Move.  browse to the external hard drive.  it will move the store location for your music files to the external drive, and your media player will look there for the music from now on.
