How do I safely remove a socket from a ring main?

Question

I am in the process of installing a new ring main in my kitchen and one of the sockets on the existing ring main is in the wrong place and so it needs to be removed. Can anybody please tell me how I remove the socket and make good the ring main in order to stay within current regs? I will need to plaster over where the socket once was when finished.
