The high cost of gasoline (almost $4. a gallon), and the high cost of rent(nothing less than 500 month)...the high cost of living is causing alot of working class people to lose their homes.....

  1. Well, all I can say is check out subsidized housing.  Go to your county's housing authority.  We lost our house a few years back, and that's what we had to do.  It's not that bad ... it's not a slum.  And the rent is based on income, they only charge 30% of what you make.

  2. Maybe change your perspective of what home is. God once told me that he always puts a roof over my head, food to eat, and a bed to lie upon.

Then he sent me outside and told me to look up  at the starry sky and said "There is your roof" and he showed me a deer standing in the field and said "There is your food". Finally he showed me a pile of freshly cut fir boughs and said "There is your bed"

And I got bitter and swore a lot, but that's another story.

  3. If you are young enough, join the military.

  4. get off the computer and get a job.

  5. That depends. What is your immediate situation, that you believe you're in danger of becoming homeless?

    EDIT:

    1) Take public transit to work, if that’s available; carpool; or even bike if at all possible. If your job is so far away that you can only reach it by driving, and gas is $4 a gallon, perhaps you should start sending out resumes.

    2) Take on a roommate to help with the cost of rent, utilities, and food.

    3) Depending on the size of your locality, you can find a food coop or community kitchen to join. The coops buy bulk and sell to members at cost. Community kitchens are designed for people with low incomes, and they provide food at a very steep discount.

    4) Join your local freecycle group, and watch the newspaper for free furniture and other necessities.

  6. That is true.  Best solutions are to write down what you absolutely have to have and the cost then see if you can figure out a way to do it cheaper.  Examples:   You need to get to work.  Is there someone with whom you can share rides?  Can you use a bus?   Is it close enough to walk once in a while.   Can you do errands on the way to or home from work so you don't need to use gas other times.  You need lunch.  You maybe normally spend $6-10 for lunch.  Take lunch with youand cut cost. Cut more by going to www.second harvest.org  and finding the nearest food help places to you. Learn to cook from scratch vs spending extra $ on carryb out or prepared foods.  Maybe you normally spend money on clothes each season.   Try to make do with what you have or spend less than $10-20 at a thrift shop.   Check out Yahoo Groups freecycle and cheapcycle for other stuff you need.   Decide you can live without cable TV and save $30-60 a month.    Get acquainted with the public library again.   You prolly have friends who are also streaching their budget so make a contest to see who can save the most.

Look for ways to earn extra money  maybe babysitting, selling stuff you don't use, a  second job.  Maybe a yard sale with friends.

Consider sharing a place with family like seeing if parents have a spare room and could use some help with their own expenses,   or with a reliable friend.

Help resources:  If all this still leaves you short one month look in the phone book under social service agencies.   If you are short every month even with these suggestions you are going to have to make major changes.

  7. Sybil if this is you ...

You could call your sister and ask for help. Just tell her your sorry for hurting her. She will probably do what she can.
