How do I save our fescue lawn from browning? Soil been muddy coz of d rain, we think water's not draining well

coz it stayed muddy for days and when you step on the grass it won't stand back up. some areas of our lawn is like a swamp. now i see browning at the base of the blades. please help! (from NJ)

  1. Most often people water at the wrong time and the blades of the grass stay wet for a long period - overnight. Add high humidity and you have a fungus.

    I realize mother nature has caused your situation and to be honest, with your description , there is really nothing to do. Its simply way too wet.

    The way to correct a lawn fungus is early prevention. Once it starts its really hard to control so consider this as a learning experience for lawn fungus.

    Control or prevention is starting around May pretreating with a granular control - widely available. Second is to only water in the AM , thus allowing the blades to dry thru the day and overnight. A lot of people water too much and this will cause it also.

    Sorry , but Mother Nature wins this year.

    Aerate and over seed by Mid Sept and no later than Halloween for fescue. It needs all winter and spring for good root development for next summers heat
