I posted a question 2 days ago about how much i should be paid for watching 3 children for 40+ hrs a week. How do I say I feel like I deserve more pay without sounding greedy or them starting to look for someone else?

  1. just tell them with as much as you've been working your gonna need a little extra money. its hard to watch kids and only make a little bit. babysitters deserve alot more then what most think.

    good luck!

  2. Tell them in confidence that you need a raise and that you been working really hard for it.

  3. Start out by saying that you enjoy watching their kids (even if the kids are little monsters, saying so obviously won't get you a raise), but you also work hard and try to do a good job. (If the kids particularly like being watched by you, that can be a big help.) Then bring up a reason why you need a raise, but make sure it's a true, legitimate reason. (For example, saving for college, a car, some special camp/classes, etc. or your family having a bad financial situation are examples of good reasons if they apply to you. Something like just wanting more money for dates or clothes, however, is not.) Many times, they will just get the hint from you bringing this up and can arrange to pay you a bit more. It's usually best for you to agree on your raise together, as opposed to you naming how much more you'd like to be paid. As long as you do a good job and have legit reasons to need more money, you won't sound greedy.

  4. It depends how long you've been with them for and how much you're making.

It's not easy to simply find a new caretaker that you can trust with your kids, so they are probably more likely to be flexible, however, if their financial situation is extremely tight, they may not be able to either.

Approach it like this: I love my job and I've been caring for your children for (let's say) a year. My financial situation is becoming really tight, and I would like to know if there is any way I would be able to get a raise soon. I don't want to lose my job, and there's really no easy way for me to ask for this.

Hopefully they will be understanding and give you some sort of raise, or at least promise you one in the near future, or at least give you something extra for Christmas

  5. "I really need a raise.  Things are getting tough and I can't make ends meet with what I am currently earning.

Is there any way you can increase my salary?

    I would appreciate it."
