How do I say no without making him sad?

One of my guy friends has recently asked me out and i said no because i didn't want to ruin the relationship. But he keeps asking and I REALLY don't want to date him. But he is my friend so i don't want to hurt his feelings. How can I tell him nicely?

you may have to lie but if you say that you only just got out of a relationship or you have something troubling you and you just not ready yet. he'll understand

only one way, it may hurt but you do need to tell him now so that he can put his energy into someone else who like him in that way.

there is no way..it will hurt him regardless of how you say it..but it must be said if you truly feel you dont want to be with him as a lover
