  1. We calls proms either Formals or Dinner Dance.

In terms of pronunciation its said exactly the same way as it is in America.

  2. I assume you are talking about your School leaving dance. Here it is called School Formal. The word prom is an abbreviation of the word promenade which means to walk about in your best clothes. Most occasions such as Weddings ,Debutants and Major Parties dress required is "Formal".

  3. We don't have 'proms' here in Australia, they are referred to ask Formals and are held at Year 10 and Year 12 for those who are leaving. I never had one. In Year 10 we were banned for having it and I left before Year 12.

  4. Unless you mean Wilson's Prom in Victoria, then the event that Americans call a prom will be either a prom, a formal or a deb ball.

  5. You do know there is not really any language called Australian as we speak English here as well, so I would say the word Prom as Prom the same way as you, but probably with a different accent.

  6. It actually depends on what state you are from.

    debutante ball

  7. puh-rawm

  8. Formal

  9. p r o m

as in rom, on, don, scon (scone), from, john, and so on and so forth.

  10. americans say it like 'prahm'

australians pronounce it as its spelt.. 'prom' like rom with a p..lol

and youll never hear someone say prom here.
