Question:

How do I sell my stuff when I can't have a garage sale?

We are in desperate need to sell our stuff, but we can't have garage sales at our rental property. I would donate it, but a lot of the items would bring us more of a return if we sold them. And it's too much to post one-by-one on eBay or Craigslist. I've been looking for a city rummage sale where you pay a fee for space within a rummage sale put on by the city at a local arena, but have had no luck.

With all that in mind, do you have any suggestions on how we can sell our stuff?

  1. You may have a local bulletin board (community forums, website) you could post your items on... and it helps if you can post pictures and list prices.

You mentioned looking for space for a fee with the city, but there are groups that do this sort of thing on occasion too, like churches, scouts, clubs, etc.... wouldnt hurt to call a few of them to see if they have something coming up.  Quite often they will let you set up table space for a flat fee or small percentage of your sales.  You might also look at the 'mini warehouses' in your area.  I see a lot of year round 'yard sales' out of them... some folks even set up miniature stores in them.  You might be able to sell your items on consignment with someone doing that.

And speaking of consignment, you might check with local specialty stores, pawn brokers, etc.... to see if they would place your items.

I'd suggest that you thoroughly clean everything you're planning on selling, and if you take photos for web posts, make sure there's no clutter in the background of the photo, hehehe.

Of course, there's always the pictured flyer you can put up at your local grocery store too, hehehe

    Good Luck

  2. Have a garage sale at a family members or

neighbors or friend's house.  Yes you would

have to haul it all over there, but at least you

    would get it sold.

  3. Put an  add in your local newspaper and sell it like that. I did that the last time I moved and sold a lot of things. Good luck.

  4. What about a consignment shop, most cities have them. Or maybe you could rent a booth at a local flea market. And also you could ask a friend if you could set up a garage sale at their house. Also you could put an add in your local paper. I hope I gave you some ideas.
