How do I send a text message to a French cell phone?

Is there a convenient website that allows a text message to be sent to a French cell phone? Is it required that I know the carrier, etc?

The safest (but expensive) way is to ask your cell phone provider. Otherwise try this website: http://www.ipipi.com/

With this site (which I have never tried by the way so I couldn't tell you if it's good or not), you must make sure that the cell phone number belongs to one of the 3 major French carriers:

- Bouygues Telecom

- Orange/France Telecom

- SFR/Cegetel

If you tell us the 4 first digits, it can help to find the carrier (ie give 06 xx).

Some carriers let you send text messages from their website.
