How do I send a text message to an email address?

I'm trying to send an "email" through my text messaging function. Basically what I did was write the email address in my send box and then I wrote a regular message. Now my tmobile phone is asking me to configure some things. Specifically it is asking for an email server number. What would that number be?

Under To: instead of entering a phone number just enter the email address you wish to send it to.

Have you seen if you have a "New Email Address" option on your phone when you try to send it?

Just wondering 'cause mine does.

Generally, you are able to just enter the email address in the slot and send just as a text. What type of phone are you using and at what point is it asking for the email server number?
