  1. try the embassey...try the U.N.

    try save the children

  2. I am an Ethiopian-American and I had the pleasure of meeting the founders of Ethiopia Reads. It is one of the most organized and well-known charities in Ethiopia and it seems similar to your mission. (They give books to school-age children in Ethiopia.)

    This is their site:

Instead of going through the steps to start your own charity, it may be more reasonable to talk to the founders as to what your role can be in the established organization. With their help, you can assess the situation in Ethiopia, the needs, so on and so forth, and create a charity that may work cohesively with Ethiopia Reads.

    Here is the contact info:http://www.ethiopiareads.org/contact.htm

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. DHL, Federal Express, and similar services can get packages anywhere in the world fairly quickly and relatively inexpensively.  If your charity is registered, they may offer you a special rate.  Or you may find a business which gets a special rate for volume from DHL or FEDEX ship your packages for you.

    Good luck.

  4. You could send them through the post, but the post office workers like to go through and pick out the "good bits" or remove the package completely....

Another (Probably more safer) idea is to go to the airport and send them on as "Excess luggage". Its fairly cheap and alot more reliable than post. (Provided you ensure its locked and un-openable) and have someone pick them up from the airport in Ethiopia.
