I have tried command prompt like "net send (Comp name of the comp on the ntwk) then da message," "msg (user name) then da message," but it still does not work even though the ntwk is enable.

  1. you can use ipmsg tool for sending messages across LAN

  2. start>run>cmd>ok

    it will start cmd

    write netsend \?

then ,, do what the help says

    start>run>cmd > net send 192.168.1.39 hello

or just start>run > and write net send 192.168.1.39 hello >192.68.1.39 the ip for the pc which will receive the messege,

IMPORTANT be sure the messenger service is running

    start>control panel>Administrative Tools>services

you will find all services make the messenger service is running you can make it automatic on both pc the sender and  receiver

  3. (Windows XP) you must activate/start first the messenger service.

Open Run Window > services.msc > find the "messenger service" > then choose automatic and reboot.
