Question:

How do I set my Sony Bravia HDTV to "air"?

I have Dish Network. I currently get my local channels through the satellite but would also like to get them "over the air". Also, all 3 of the locals broadcast in HD part-time. How do I get free over-the-air HD. I can't seem to get it and wonder if I should get someone from Bestbuy/Circuit City out to try?

  1. theres an option on the tv if you are using over the air antenna that you can switch from the menu.

  2. To view "over the air" channels, you need to make sure the TV has an ATSC tuner to receive HD broadcasts.

Your set top box for Dish Network most likely sends out the HD signals on HDMI.

The over the air broadcasts will come in on the Coax cable from the antenna.  It's a completely different input connection.

Since you can use to cable coax "UHF" input for either cable or antenna, there is a setting called "CABLE" in the Channel Settings.  For antenna, it should be set to "OFF".  I got that from the KDL-40XBR5 manual (Sony Bravia 40" LCD).

  3. the hdtv are the same as old tv's just hook up an antenna to it on the back and scan for channels and you will have them.
