How do I set my pinball machine from 3 balls to 5? I'm told the way to change it is somewhere in/on/near the front cabinet. But no one can tell me how. Or what it looks like. I need specifics.

  1. Specifics are ABSOLUTELY necessary.  Do you really think that a 1975 Bally Bow and Arrow electromechanical pinball machine is adjusted the same way as a 2008 Stern Indiana Jones electronic game?  (Hint: No.)

The old electromechanical games are toggled between 3 and 5 balls via a single wire that ends in a solid cylindrical plug; you plug it in to one of two possible sockets inside the cabinet, one is for 3 balls, and the other is for...

    ...wait for it...

    5 balls.

If you're lucky, there should still be paper labels glued into place inside the cabinet that identify these things.  If not, look for a set of two adjacent "sockets" with one wire plugged into one of them.  It should be on the bottom of the main cabinet, on the inside of course, probably behind the coin box.  Don't change the plug to a different socket with the power on.

Learn to read a schematic, or find someone that can; it will help you troubleshoot all the problems you're likely to encounter.  Another person already gave you a good link to the game's manual in another question you asked; the manual includes the schematic too, and if you look in the upper left corner of the schematic, you'll see the information about the ball setting adjustment.
