I was on my school's vball team this past fall, and I could never figure out how to set! When I try to do it my fingers never push it up, the way other people's do on the team. Please help me, I need to learn how to do this over the summer before tryouts.

  1. Make a triangle w/ your hands over your forehead. Spread your finger apart. Make sure to use your legs when hitting the ball. and reach up like superman.

  2. it's not only your fingers!!  you use your wrists, legs and arms!  you should make sure that the ball is above your shoulders b4 you set, then you normally want to set it from above your forehead, you kind of absorb the impact then push it back into the air

  3. one of my coaches really taught me a good tecnique. start out slow then put all of it together and it works great!

1.tip ur head back, and put ur hands (palms facing each other and fingers spread apart) in front of ur face w/ ur thumbs lik there gonna poke ur eyes.

2.go from taht position and move ur hands to a posistion wer its like ur drinkin a 2 liter of pop (move ur fingers closer 2 ur face)

3.push out ur arms like superman.

during the whole thing, make sure ur knees AND elbows are bent so you have sumwer 2 push the ball 2! trust me, i a great setter now just because of that 10 minute drill.

  4. alright..

    1)    put your hands at your waist

    2)    step and put them in fornt of your face liek your chugging     2 liter bottle ( have your hands close to your head)

    3)    make sure the ball touches your fingers only (not the palm!!)

    4)    push up and step through

  5. i had the same problem....

just push it up using youre finger tips, if it helps, just kinda wack it with your fingertips.

  6. I agree with music luvr.  Start slow.  Very slow.  Toss a ball off the wall and move until you can get it with your hands.  HOLD the ball.  Check your hands and your arms and your knees to make sure they are the way you want them.  And then, toss the ball back to the wall.  Your arms should look like the "superman" as again suggest by music luvr.  Repeat.  You should take at least 5 seconds with the ball in your hands.  Spend several minutes like this.  Gradually speed it up.  Do not be in a hurry to speed it up as you will bring bad habits.

If you have someone to work with you, have them take the ball out of your hands when you are in position.  Keep your hands in the position.  Your hands should look like a volleyball when in the ready position.  Most people trying to learn how to set start with their hands like they are ready to set a salami.

Move your feet to get to the ball.  Do not move your hands and your arms to get to the ball.

Practice every day for as long as you can.

  7. Well first you have to get in position. You want to make a somewhat triangle with your pointer fingers and thumbs and place your hands like you're going to chug something or catch the ball. Keep your fingers pretty stiff and make sure you make contact in the right place; this may sound weird but the best way I can explain it is to pretend like you're going to hit it on the top of your forehead but you're actually going to set it, that's where your hands should be. Then make sure you keep your elbows bent and push out with a lot of force, somewhat making a pushing out movement with your fingers. Don't forget to use your legs to push out, most people don't realize how important your legs are to setting.

Oh yah, and practice practice practice. You'll eventually get it right.

  8. hello, a little more detail about the problem would help, but here is 2 solutions.

    1) If you are trying to push the ball up from under it, your hands may not rotate back far enough to do so.

    2) if you are doing the laced fingers approach, practice on keeping your index fingers just loose enough to get your thumbs at a level surface with them.

    and just practice, practice, practice!!!!
