How do I set up a Kenmore 1249180 Sewing Machine?

I'm trying to take in a shirt and I'm not sure what settings the sewing machine should be on? Such as, stitch length, width, etc. I'm also not familiar with this particular machine and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be threading it? I tried a couple times but when I tried to sew it just started making knots.

The sewing machine is a Kenmore 10, model 1249180. Any help or pictures would be appreciated!
