I have a dish receiver and dish satellite. My brother gave me his direct tv receiver. What channel do I put my tv on to obtain the signal from the direct tv satellite and does anyone know the satellite points to point the dish to.

  1. The first problem is, the receiver won't receive anything unless it's authorized by DirecTV.  In order to authorize it, you will have to subscribe to a programming package and money will have to change hands.

That said, most of the receivers have an installation menu.  The ones I've seen have you put in your ZIP code and the receiver looks up where you are supposed to aim the dish and gives you an on screen meter so you can get the best signal.

As for hooking it up to your TV, you can use either Video/Audio or RF.  If you use video/audio, then connect the cables to your TV's A/V inputs and select that input on the TV's menus.  If you use RF, connect a coaxial cable between the receiver and the TV's antenna input.  The receivers usually operate on channel 3 or 4.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

  2. first do you know if that IRD-receiver still ACTIVATED if so you can just hook up one end of the RCA jacks (red-white-yellow cables) to the back of the IRD and the other end of the RCA to the back of your TV then if you live anywear in So.Calif. your ODU- DISH must be pointing south-east

if you have a 18" ODU ( with only one LNB) t

    he steps are

    1) make sure the mast or leg were the ODU will set on is level .

    2)set the elevation to 46'

make sure you used RG-6 cable from the ODU to the IRD

I hope is info will help you

  3. D!rect tv signal is secured.  You can not watch d!rect tv with out subscription.  Unless your brother pays for D!rect tv and gives you an extra receiver, than you can not use it.

As far as satellite pointing, you need to know which satellites you want to point to.  There are hundreds in the sky.  Check out this site:  www. dishpointer.com
