How do I set up a wireless network in my apartment?

I have 2 macintosh and one PC computer in my apartment, and only one cable modem which is currently hooked into the mac desktop. I want to use my laptops (one mac one PC) in the rest of my apartment, but I've never really set up a wireless network before. How would I go about doing it so that I could use all of my computers on the same network?

  1. buy a wireless router from any ol' electronics depot.

    unplug your modem.

put the CD from the router in.

    follow directions.

plug in router to modem then computer to router.

make sure to setup a password, something like "ilikedogs" or "grumpyinthemorning" or "myfavoritetvshowwasthejoeyspinoffafterf... or "somethingthatnoonewilleverguessbecausei...

  2. Ok not sure if Mac supports wireless routers. First buy a wireless router that support Mac an PC Hook up 1 computer to the router.  for the other computers you will need a wireless adapter  for each computer unless its already built in.  Install software and follow prompts.  email me for help if you get stuck

  3. Connect a wireless router to the modem. Then connect all the machines to the router.

  4. I have a mac and i use a linksys router. I just looked on the linksys website and downloaded the app for mac. the one for windows comes on the cd that comes with the router.

it its relatively easy to set up a network. just connect the router to the modem and from there connect each computer to the router via ethernet, unless you wanna connect them wirelessly, in which case you would have to buy the corresponding adapter that goes with the router for each computer, and laptop too i think. and of course set up the router thing on your windows with the CD or the downloadable app for mac for your mac.

my router can only have 4 connections to it. the max number of connections might vary on the model and brand.

  5. All you really need is a wireless (remember that!) router compatible with Windows and Mac machines. Connect the router to the cable modem (the router should include directions for which part of the router to use), but use the same end of the cable that was in your desktop. Then, connect the mac PC to the router (again, read the router manual, because all of the plugs on the router are not the same, even if they look similar). If your laptops don't have wireless capability already, you'll need wireless cards for them. Configure the router using the Mac PC, and set the router up for wireless use (using encryption!). The router instructions should tell you how to connect the laptops to the router without wires.

  6. ok so it is easier to do. Buy a router, then hook up the pc to the modem and run the installation disk that comes with the router on it(it most likely won't work with mac). The disk should walk you through it. If you have any troubles email me.
