How do I setup wireless internet in my home and what do I need to buy to do so?

I want to get wireless internet in my home, but I dont know the first thing about what I need to set it up.

  1. A wireless router to hook into your cable.


  2. buy a router at fry electronics if you have really no clue ask them im sure they will help you they might even show you with there computers....

  3. You will need an Internet Service Provider (ISP).  The ISP provides the Internet connection.  The ISP  provides a modem that provides you the signal (see below).

    You will then need a router and a wireless access point.  You can purchase a unit that combines both functions into one unit.

    Many ISPs will provide a modem / router / wireless access point in one integrated unit for household users.  If they do this you need to purchase nothing.

    You need to configure these devices but that is another subject that can be addressed separately.

  4. My advice is, stay away from wireless if you can.  I use wireless for my laptop because I take it to different rooms in my house.  If you are connecting a stationary device that is just in an inconvientient room for connecting an ethernet cable, you might want to consider powerline instead of wireless.  Check out this video: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7390_1-6274537-...
