Question:

How do I sew a Hem on this bed spread?

My mother in law wants me to sew a hem arround the edge of this bed spread and it is huge.. I"m not sure how to do it. I have hemmed fleece and stuff but not this fabric.. I think it is a poly/cotton blend.. She does want me to use any of the quilt binding on it so I'm bumfuggled here... Please Help

  1. If it is huge you are going to need to pin it first,

    then hand stitch(basting stitch) it in place using long stitches that you will pull out later. Use bright thread so you can see it.

    Then machine sew it.

    Remove hand stitches

    I wouldn't use satin blanket binding. There is packaged cotton binding. Or you can make you own by cutting fabric strips on the bias.

    If it is quilted, any kind of batting inside, I would run a machine stitch around the whole edge first to close it up. It will make putting the binding on easier.

    Do you have enough fabric to do at least a 1/2" wide miter (is the fabric given at least 2" wider and longer than the finished size needs to be?)
